Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19 While in Nevada
(NEWSnet/AP) – The White House says that President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 while in Nevada, and is returning to his home in Delaware to isolate and recuperate.
Biden was in Las Vegas Wednesday as part of a series of speeches, interviews and campaign events this week. About mid-day, the White House press pool reports, he taped an interview with a Univision radio and television host; the latest in a series of national media interviews he has sat for in the past two weeks.
The rest of his schedule for the day, specifically a speech at the UnidosUS conference, was canceled.
"He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus," according to the note from the president's doctor that the White House released Tuesday evening.
The "mild symptoms," according to the White House, included runny nose, non-productive cough and general malaise.
With that, he was given the first dose in a series of Paxlovid, and made plans to stay at his home in Rehoboth, Delaware.
"The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation," the statement said.
