(NEWSnet) – The cost of a first-class stamp is set to increase July 14, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The new prices will be 73 cents for a first-class stamp and 56 cents for a postcard stamp, according to the notice submitted in April.

Many stamps sold now are from the “forever” line, which is currently 68 cents for first-class mail and 53 cents for postcard mail. A “forever” stamp can be used at any time after purchase, even if the postage rate has since increased.

The postal service says the price adjustments are part of its 10-year plan to restore financial stability to the agency and update its services.
