Biden Fundraiser in L.A. Includes Clooney, Roberts, Brings $28M
LOS ANGELES (NEWSnet/AP) — Hollywood stars headlined a fundraiser Saturday for President Joe Biden. It helped to raise $28 million, according to his re-election campaign.
George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand were among those who took the stage Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel interviewed Biden and former President Barack Obama, who both stressed the need to defeat Donald Trump. ‘
The event featured singing by Jack Black and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Actors Kathryn Hahn and Jason Bateman introduced Kimmel, who introduced Biden and Obama.
Kimmel asked the president what he is most proud of accomplishing, and Biden said he believes the administration’s approach to the economy “is working.”
“We have the strongest economy in the world today,” Biden said. “We try to give ordinary people an even chance.”
Biden told gathering, “We passed every major piece of legislation we attempted to get done."
Obama expressed admiration for the administration's legislation on health care, public works, the environment, technology manufacturing, gun safety and other initiatives.
Trump on Saturday campaigned in Detroit. Campaign spokesman Karoline Leavitt said Biden was fundraising "with out-of-touch elitist Hollywood celebrities.”
