SAN FRANCISCO (NEWSnet/AP) — OpenAI has appointed retired Army Gen. Paul Nakasone, a former cyberwarrior, to its board of directors.

The maker of ChatGPT says the selection of Nakasone will provide protection from “increasingly sophisticated bad actors.”

Nakasone previously was commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of  National Security Agency.

OpenAI is choosing new members for its board after upheaval at the artificial intelligence company forced a reset. The previous board fired CEO Sam Altman, then was replaced as he returned to his CEO role.

In March, OpenAI reinstated Altman to its board of directors.

Nakasone also joins OpenAI’s safety and security committee.
