Liam, Olivia Remain Most-Popular Baby Names in US
WASHINGTON (NEWSnet/AP) — Liam and Olivia were the most popular baby names in the U.S. in 2023.
It was the fifth straight year both names topped the list. Liam has been in first for seven.
After Liam, the most common names for boys are, in order: Noah, Oliver, James, Elijah, Mateo, Theodore, Henry, Lucas and William. Mateo joined the top 10 for the first time.
After Olivia, the most common names for girls are Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Ava, Evelyn and Luna. Emma had been No. 1 for five years before Olivia’s streak.
For girls, one of the fastest-rising names is Kaeli, which rose 1,692 spots compared to 2022.
Social Security Administration tracks names given to girls and boys in each state, dating to 1880. The agency gathers names from applications for Social Security cards.
