CHICAGO (NEWSnet/AP) — Pro-Palestine demonstrators on Monday blocked a freeway leading to three terminals at Chicago O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Around 7 a.m., protesters linked arms and blocked lanes of Interstate 190, in a demonstration they say is part of a global “economic blockade to free Palestine,” according to Rifqa Falaneh, one of the organizers.

Dozens were taken into Chicago police custody, according to Falaneh. Police did not provide additional details.

O’Hare officials warned travelers to choose alternative forms of transportation with car travel “substantially delayed ... due to protest activity.”

Although individual travelers may have been delayed, operations at the airport appeared near normal with delays of under 15 minutes, according to Chicago Department of Aviation.

Inbound traffic toward O’Hare resumed around 9 a.m.

Also early Monday, traffic in the San Francisco Bay area was snarled for hour as pro-Palestine demonstrators blocked both directions of Golden Gate Bridge and stalled a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 880 in Oakland.
