SAN FRANCISCO (NEWsnet/AP) — Use of social media by teenagers hasn’t dropped much, despite rising concern about its effects on the mental health of adolescents, a survey from Pew Research Center found.

Seventy-one percent of teens surveyed said they visit YouTube at least daily, and about 16% described their use of YouTube and TikTok as “almost constant.”

Usage percentage for Snapchat and Instagram came in at 14% and 8%, respectively.

YouTube remains by far the most popular social platform among teens, with 93% responding that they use the service. That is down two percentage points from a 2022 survey.

Facebook use dropped to 33% in 2023, compared to more than 70% in 2014-15. Only 19% of teens reported checking Facebook at on a daily basis. About 3% describe their use as “almost constant.”

The Pew survey, published Dec. 11, was conducted from Sept. 26 to Oct. 23 with 1,453 respondents ages 13 to 17.
