Detroit gets America's first wireless electric charging roadway according to project leaders.

This happened Wednesday November 29th on 14th Street in Corktown, with the ability to charge vehicles going over the pavement.

This has been in the works since 2021 when Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the plans.

The road is equipped with inductive-charging coils from Israel-based Electreon Wireless Ltd. Transferring electricity through a magnetic field when a receiver is present, moving into the vehicle's battery.

Only electric vehicles that have a special receiver can be charged from the mile long portion of the road.

The receiver is not yet commercially available.

In 20-24 MDOT is looking to rebuild a part of US 12 with an inductive charger.
