Apple Jumps into AI Space
(NEWSnet) — Apple is reportedly making some big moves in the world of artificial intelligence.
In an interview with Reuters, CEO Tim Cook says the company spent a staggering $22.6 billion in research and development efforts.
Apple’s strategy appears to be much more careful and calculated than some of its competitors. They’ve been eager to jump into space as fast as they can despite warnings of just how dangerous this tech could be in the wrong hands.
Microsoft, Google and Meta publicly doubled down in the space.
Cook has even been publicly critical of the move.
Microsoft’s Bing integrated ChatGPT months ago. Apple is reportedly working on its own despite not making a single mention to investors as recently as June. Bloomberg first broke the story last week.
The generative AI tool has been dubbed Apple GPT. Bloomberg says Apple is using its own large language model to train the tech and is only used internally.
The Financial Times reports that Apple is hiring staffers in four different regions to help build the software — a program that could be on the market as soon as next year.
It is unclear how Apple’s program will be set apart, but according to the job listings— your iPhone may play an essential part.
