(NEWSnet) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall Aug. 3 for certain models of the Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor.

The recall is because a rechargable lithium-ion battery in the parent monitor can overheat during charging.

The device works with a camera placed near the infant, and a monitor that parents can view. The monitor is white and has a 3.5 inch color screen.

The recalled monitors were manufactured between March 2016 and December 2019, with model numbers SCD630 and SCD843. Both the model number and production dates are on the bottom of the parent unit. They were sold online at various retailers for a cost of $120 to $200.

The recall was issued in the aftermath of 23 reports of the video baby monitors overheating in Europe, resulting in seven minor injuries. No overheating incidents or related injuries have been reported in the United States, where about 12,850 of such devices may be affected.

Consumers should stop using the device, and contact Philips Avent for a free replacement.
