This Week In Layoffs: Anheuser-Busch, Amazon, NBA Make Job Cuts
(NEWSnet) — Anheuser-Busch is one of the big names on the chopping block this week.
On Wednesday, the beer maker will cut 2% of its workforce, which means approximately 380 people lost their jobs. The move comes after two months of declining sales amid right-wing boycotts in response to a marketing campaign. The move meant that Bud Light lost the moniker of the top-selling beer in the United States.
Amazon also announced job cuts this week.
The e-commerce giant cut 44 jobs across one of its Amazon Fresh grocery store brands. The main role eliminated is a mid-level management position within stores. The move will impact locations in eight states as well as Washington D.C.
In the tech sector, Calendly made a large headcount reduction.
The scheduling app slashed 10% of its workforce. The move comes as a bit of a surprise as the company was valued at $3 billion in 2021.
The company's CEO Tope Awotona said the company is profitable and that the move is to “capitalize on AI.”
Petco announced job cuts this week as well with 47 people losing their jobs. More will reportedly go in October.
The NBA laid off workers as well. The Sports Business Journal reported earlier this week that the league laid off dozens but did not specify the exact number of workers or what departments were most affected.
