Michael Lee Aday , who you probably know better by the name Meat Loaf, has passed away at the age of 74.
He was noted for his powerful, wide-ranging voice and theatrical live shows.
In total, the Grammy- and Brit-Award winner has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, and his album Bat Out of Hell which was released more than four decades ago still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually and stayed on the charts for over nine years, making it one of the best-selling albums in history.
Meat Loaf appeared in over 50 movies and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona.
His film roles include lobotomized biker Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the bus driver in Spice World and his name is Robert "Bob" Paulson in Fight Club.
His early stage work included dual roles in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show, and he also appeared in the musical Hair, both on- and off-Broadway.
Aday was born in Dallas, Texas and had a bit of a rough childhood, being raised by a single mother after she left his father who was a disabled World War TWO veteran and alcoholic, she then died when he was still a teenager. As a child, he also saw the president and first lady on the day J.F.K. died.
He is survived by two adult daughters Pearl who he adopted from his first wife's previous marriage and Amanda who he also shared with Leslie Edmonds who he was with from 1978 until 2001.
He was the kind of father who despite going out on world tours, coached his girls' baseball and softball teams.
A post on Facebook said the musician’s wife Deborah Gillespie who he married in 2007 was by his side and his friends had been with him in his final 24 hours.
